The Butler high school girls bowling team finished fourth overall at the Pennsylvania State Bowling Championships Saturday at Princess Lanes in Pittsburgh. Mercedes Belch led all girls bowlers with a 673 series which included a 299 game. She rolled 11 strikes in a row before leaving a four pin on her final ball of the opening game of the tournament. She was named to the "All-Tournament Team".
The Butler girls qualifed third overall, but lost 2-1 to Elizabethtown in the championship step-ladder. Elizabethtown won the opening game 203-194. Butler won game two 192-188, before falling in the deciding game of the match 203-164. Shikellamy won the girls title.
The Butler boys finished ninth overall. Chris Huff led Butler with a 635 series. Cole Thrash added a 607. Penn Manor won the boys title for the third year in a row.
